MNJ New Music Spotlight: DOLLS
Today’s MNJ New Music Spotlight is on Essex and London based Punk-Pop duo, DOLLS.
Line-up: Jade Ellins (guitar/vocals) and Belinda Conde (drums/vocals)
About: Having spent the last year relentlessly gigging in and around the capital, packing out venues and being heavily championed by Radio X and BBC Introducing, DOLLS have spent the summer working with Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds and Grinderman drummer Jim Sclavunos on their new ‘Pop The Bubble’ EP – released Friday 21st September by iconic soundtrack labels Mondo/Death Waltz on a beautiful limited edition multi-coloured and etched vinyl LP and digital. The band launched the EP at Rough Trade East with an in-store show on Monday 24th September. ‘Sugar Free’ is the EP’s lead-track, a riotous example of their infectious grunge-punk, and the accompanying video was directed by Callum Scott-Dyson.
What MNJ say: With short, sharp shocks of snarling punk-pop and scruffy allure aplenty, DOLLS‘ sound is a primal thrill ride that demands to be heard. Looking for an entry point? Watch the intensely hued, feast for the eyes that is new video ‘Sugar Free’
